What jobs do young people do?
Find the job that's right for you
If you are keen to start work you will be wondering what sort of work is available in our area. If you have a look at the type of jobs recent Northumberland school leavers went into, you will see that the biggest area was construction (the building trades).
In 2007 537 Year 11 leavers went into work or training. This chart shows how many went into each occupational area listed.

The chart shows that:
19.6% of young people enter jobs in skilled construction.
12.7% entered jobs in hairdressing and related occupations.
6.9% entered jobs in vehicle trades.
6.3% entered jobs in metal forming trades.
5.6% entered jobs in agriculture, forestry and fishing.
5% entered jobs in sales.
4.5% started clerical and secretarial jobs.
3.9% entered labouring jobs.
3.5% work in skilled engineering.
2.2% started jobs in catering.
8.4% entered a range of other occupations.
21.4% enter occupations that were unknown.
