About NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications)

NVQs are available in schools, colleges and work based learning centres. Some people complete their NVQ in the workplace.

  • NVQs prove that you can apply what you have learned to a work situation.
  • They are recognised by employers nationally.
  • NVQs are usually studied on a part-time basis.
  • In Northumberland you can train to NVQ levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 through work based learning, although most young people will start on either level 1 or 2.

What are NVQs equivalent to?

NVQ 1 =  GCSEs Grades D-G
NVQ 2 =  GCSEs Grades A-C
NVQ 3 = 2 A Levels
NVQ 4/5 = Degree level
