Recruiting young people
This section of the website gives help and advice if you have decided to recruit a young person.
Recruitment
- Once you have identified the role you need to fill, define the tasks and the type of person you want to employ.
- Draw up a job description; a clear, simple statement of objectives, actions and tasks required in the role. Not only will it help with your recruitment, it will also help you assess how the role will fit within your organisation.
- Draw up a person specification. This will help you identify the skills, experience, qualifications and personal qualities required for the role. The exercise will also help you identify what type of person would best match your company’s culture and will provide you with a framework for conducting the interview.
- Advertising your vacancy? Get in touch with your local Connexions Centre, they will be able to help you:
- Draw up an advert and advertise the vacancy within the Centre.
- Match your vacancy to young people seeking employment.
- If required provide an application form, organise interviews and provide interview facilities.
Job descriptions and person specification are available to download from the ACAS website.
Shortlisting
The simplest way to shortlist candidates is to read the application form, CV and covering letter and match the information against the requirements on the person specification.
