National Minimum Wage

Young people aged 16 and 17 who are employed (not as an Apprentice) should be paid at least the national minimum rate. Workers aged 18-21 should be paid at least the national minimum wage. Rates change annual on October 1st. Current rates can be found at www.berr.gov.uk/employment/pay/national-minimum-wage/

Apprentices aged 16 or 17 years old are exempt from the young workers' rate. This only applies for the first year of the young person's Apprenticeship. However the minimum weekly payment to them should be no lower than £80 a week.
