Staying on at school after year 11
If you want to stay on at school
You may decide that you would like to stay on at school. The first thing that you need to find out is if your school has a sixth form and which courses are available.
Things you should know about schools in Northumberland
High Schools
All High Schools have a Sixth Form and produce a Sixth Form Prospectus. This gives details of all the courses they offer. Your 'Choices' booklet, if you received one, will also tell you the courses available. High Schools offer ‘A’ levels or Advanced Vocational qualifications and GNVQs. Schools cannot discriminate against disabled students.
Special Schools
Some special schools have a Sixth Form; others do not. Sixth Form programmes in special schools are usually different to those studied up until year 11. They focus on preparing you for adult life. In Sixth Form you will look at options after school in a leaver’s programme.
If you wish to stay on at school you need to speak to your Personal Adviser or your Special Needs Coordinator and the Head of Sixth Form.
