Jobs of the Past, Present and Future
Workers Wanted
Twenty years ago there were no website designers and personal trainers. And in twenty years from now there may be no milk deliverers or fewer postal workers. New jobs are constantly emerging to meet demand and therefore the skills required for work are always changing.
What will you be doing in 5, 10 or 15 years time?
It may seem a long way off, but City & Guilds, a vocational examining body, have already been looking at jobs which may need more workers to fill them in the future. You might be suprised at the results. The jobs include:
| Nurses | Electricans |
| Teachers | Care Assistants |
| Doctors | Electrical Engineers |
| Architects | Builders |
What does this mean for you?
In 5 years you could be leaving school or college after finishing an advanced level course or completing your Apprenticeship. In 10 years you might have graduated from university and be in your first job.
In 15 years...?
You'll need to:
- Keep up to date - check your Connexions Resources Area in school or in your local Connexions Centre.
- Keep learning, even after you leave school. Qualifications and key skills are important.
- Be flexible and adaptable.
