Services for young people

Personal Advisers

Every young person aged 13-19 in Northumberland has access to a Connexions Personal Adviser. Personal Advisers are based in high schools and colleges across the county and can also be contacted in one of our Connexions Centres. Click here for contact details and opening times.

Personal Advisers can:

• help young people think about what they can achieve and support them to get there with advice on routes into employment, training and further education
• help young people make choices about their future
• help with job applications, CV writing and application forms and provide details of job and training opportunities
• help young people explore new ways of developing talents and interests, for example volunteering, community projects, the arts, sport or other local leisure activities
• give advice, information and guidance on personal issues, e.g. health, relationships
• help with personal development, social skills and building confidence.
• work with other organisations on behalf of young people and arrange access to specialist support services if required

VCS (Voluntary and Community Sector) Personal Advisers

The VCS Personal Advisers (PA) are based in 6 VCS Youth Organisations providing information, advice, guidance and support in general terms to young people accessing the Youth Organisation and other local Youth Projects.

Connexions Centres

All our Connexions Centres have:

• vacancy display boards and local newspapers
• information on careers, education, leisure activities, finance and other issues
• internet access and software (e.g. Kudos, Careerscape and JED) to help young people choose a career, find a course, job or training opportunity and make applications
